Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across central Kentucky and the Bluegrass

Ductless Mini-Split Installation

We install ductless mini-split systems in homes across Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia, usually where the ductwork never reached. A mini-split is an outdoor unit paired with one or more indoor heads that mount on the wall or ceiling, connected by a small line set through the exterior wall. Homeowners call us for additions, finished attics, sunrooms, garage shops and older houses with one room that never gets comfortable. Call us and we will walk the space with you and talk through the options.

What the installation actually involves

We start inside, picking where the indoor head goes so air reaches the whole room rather than blowing at a wall. Then we set the outdoor unit on a pad or wall bracket, run the line set and condensate drain through a small penetration, and seal it against weather and pests. Electrical gets pulled to a disconnect near the outdoor unit. After that we pressure test, evacuate the lines and charge the system, then run it through both heating and cooling before we leave.

What we check and install

Before anything is mounted we measure the room, look at window area, insulation and ceiling height, and size the BTU capacity to the load instead of guessing. We check the electrical panel for available capacity, look at drainage routing so condensate runs somewhere sensible, and confirm the outdoor location has clearance and drifting snow will not bury it. Multi-zone jobs get a head count and a line routing plan first. We also talk through filtration, since mini-splits affect IAQ in a closed-off room.

How we decide ductless is the right call

Ductless makes sense when adding duct to a space would mean tearing into finished ceilings, or when one room is fighting the rest of the house. In older farmhouses where the ductwork was added decades after the house was built, the trunk lines often cannot serve an addition at all. If your existing system is sound and the duct run is short, we will say so and quote that instead. We also look at whether propane or dual-fuel heating already covers the space adequately.

Ductless Mini-Split Installation — quick answers

Can one outdoor unit run more than one room?

Yes. Multi-zone systems pair one outdoor unit with several indoor heads, each with its own thermostat setting. We size the outdoor unit for the combined load and plan line routing before we mount anything, since the runs have length limits.

Will a mini-split heat the room in winter?

Most systems we install do both heating and cooling. Output drops in deep cold, so in colder parts of the region we discuss whether the space needs backup heat or whether the mini-split can carry it alone.

How much wall damage does installation cause?

Usually one hole about three inches across through the exterior wall for the line set and drain, plus mounting screws for the indoor head. We seal and trim the penetration. No ceiling or floor demolition is needed.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. That detail tells us what parts to bring along.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow and the equipment itself before we quote anything. If the problem sits in the ductwork rather than the unit, we say so plainly.

  3. Step 3

    We repair and explain

Most air conditioning repair and heating repair work finishes in one visit. We show you the failed part, explain what caused it, and tell you what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us

  • Propane and dual fuelPlenty of homes in our service area run propane heat or a dual fuel setup with a heat pump. We know how those systems switch over and why a bad changeover setting can leave you cold and burning fuel.
  • Older houses, added ductworkFarmhouses often got ducts decades after they were built, run through crawl spaces and attics. When the equipment tests fine but rooms still fight each other, we look at the duct runs and static pressure.
  • Repair before replacementA failed capacitor, a cracked wire, a clogged drain or a bad control board is a repair, not a new system. We tell you when the equipment is genuinely finished and when it is not.
  • Plain talk on the phoneWe ask what the thermostat reads, whether the outdoor unit is spinning, and when it last worked normally. That two minute conversation often shortens the visit and keeps the repair cost down.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
