Homeowners' pick for heating and cooling across central Kentucky and the Bluegrass

UV Lights & Ventilation

We install and service UV light systems and mechanical ventilation for homes across Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee and West Virginia. This is the work you want when the house smells musty, the coil keeps growing biofilm, or the air feels stale and damp because a tight house has nowhere to breathe. UV lamps treat what moves past them inside the HVAC system. Ventilation brings measured fresh air in and pushes stale air out. Call us and describe what you are smelling and where, and we will tell you which one fits.

What the job involves

A UV install means finding the right spot in the air handler, usually near the evaporator coil or in the return, mounting the lamp so it actually shines on the wet surfaces where growth starts, and wiring it to a safe power source. Ventilation work is different. That is cutting in a fresh air intake or an energy recovery ventilator, running duct to it, and balancing the airflow so the house is not pulled negative. Both jobs finish with a runtime check and a walkthrough of when lamps need replacing.

What we check or install

We start at the coil and the drain pan, because that is where most musty smells begin. We look at filter quality and fit, since a leaky filter slot lets dust bypass everything downstream. We check return leakage in crawlspaces and attics, common in farmhouses where ductwork was added long after the house was built. Then we measure how much outdoor air the home is actually getting. From there we size a lamp, a ventilator, or both, and set the controls to match how you run the system.

How we decide it is the right call

UV makes sense when the problem lives on the coil, slimy pan, sour smell at startup, growth returning within a season of cleaning. Ventilation makes sense when the whole house feels stale, windows sweat, or humidity stays high with the AC running. Neither one fixes a wet crawlspace, a plugged drain, or duct pulling air from a dirty attic, so we correct those first. If a cleaning and a better filter would solve it, we say that instead of selling you hardware you do not need.

UV Lights & Ventilation — quick answers

How often do UV lamps need replacing?

Most lamps lose output long before they stop glowing, so plan on replacement roughly every year or two depending on the model. We note the date at install and can swap the bulb during a maintenance visit.

Will a UV light get rid of dust and pollen?

No. UV works on biological growth like mold and bacteria, mainly on the coil surface it shines on. Dust, pollen and dander are a filtration job, so we look at filter type and fit separately.

Does my house really need fresh air ventilation?

If windows fog, odors linger for hours, or humidity stays high with the system running, the house likely needs measured outdoor air. We test before recommending, since some homes already leak plenty on their own.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Tell us the symptom

Call or fill in the quote form and describe what changed. Warm air, no air, a smell, a noise, a breaker that keeps tripping. That detail tells us what parts to bring along.

  2. Step 2

    We diagnose on site

We check the thermostat, the electrical side, airflow and the equipment itself before we quote anything. If the problem sits in the ductwork rather than the unit, we say so plainly.

  3. Step 3

    We repair and explain

Most air conditioning repair and heating repair work finishes in one visit. We show you the failed part, explain what caused it, and tell you what to watch for next season.

Why homeowners call us

  • Propane and dual fuelPlenty of homes in our service area run propane heat or a dual fuel setup with a heat pump. We know how those systems switch over and why a bad changeover setting can leave you cold and burning fuel.
  • Older houses, added ductworkFarmhouses often got ducts decades after they were built, run through crawl spaces and attics. When the equipment tests fine but rooms still fight each other, we look at the duct runs and static pressure.
  • Repair before replacementA failed capacitor, a cracked wire, a clogged drain or a bad control board is a repair, not a new system. We tell you when the equipment is genuinely finished and when it is not.
  • Plain talk on the phoneWe ask what the thermostat reads, whether the outdoor unit is spinning, and when it last worked normally. That two minute conversation often shortens the visit and keeps the repair cost down.
  • All major brands, gas & electricCarrier, Trane, Lennox, Goodman, Rheem, York and more, as an independent company.
  • Straight answersIf a system is not worth repairing, we say so, often right on the phone.
